Create and customize the design of your campaign

This article will provide you with the basics for creating the various backgrounds of your campaign, tips for design, and mobile testing

Updated today

Socialshaker was designed to help you launch your campaigns quickly and easily, with minimal graphic creation. To make this possible, we provide a collection of ready-to-use templates, inspired by seasonal events and highlights throughout the year. These are available for free, directly when selecting your game during configuration.

However, you may prefer to design your own custom visual identity to better reflect your brand. In that case, you have two options:

  • Let our team handle the graphic design of your campaign

  • Upload your own graphic assets to your game campaign

If you choose the second option, we strongly recommend checking out our Design Kit for detailed guidance.

Campaign Background Visual

The main background visual is applied across all screens of your game.
You can upload it via the “Configuration” tab.

For optimal results, we recommend using a high-resolution image sized at 1920 x 1080 px.

To improve contrast and readability, you can add a blur effect to your background before uploading it.

On microsite versions, a full-screen stretched background enhances the immersive experience of your campaign.

You also have the option to overlay transparent PNG elements (e.g. logos, decorative items like diamonds) over your background to achieve a layered design.

✍️ Note: You can choose to set this background as the default mobile background by ticking the relevant box. In this case, the image will be centered and cropped to fit the width of a smartphone screen.

Page Background Image (home, form, game screen, etc.)

You can upload a page overlay visual to layer on top of your main background.
Recommended sizes are:

  • Desktop: 810 x 700 px

  • Mobile: 480 x 710 px

You can also create these overlays using transparent PNGs, allowing you to add brand elements (logos, characters, etc.) that sit naturally above the main background.

💡 Important: It is not possible to add a page overlay for the “Game Screen”. On this step, only the desktop overlay will be displayed (if configured). If not, the default campaign background will be used, unless you’ve set the mobile background specifically.

Action Buttons

Action buttons can be fully customized using the tools in the editor.
You can change:

  • Button text

  • Font size

  • Default and hover colors

Game Theme

Each game type includes specific elements you’ll need to create and upload in the “Game Theme” section under “Mechanics”. Dimensions are indicated next to each upload field.

You’ll also find more info in our dedicated guides for each game mechanic.

Some games require an image containing the game rules. This can be uploaded via the “Intro Theme” tab in the Mechanic section. You can also include the rules directly in the background image of this section if you prefer.

Desktop & Mobile

The campaign background, game area (including game elements), texts and buttons are all responsive and adapt to mobile screens. However, page overlays are center-cropped on mobile. To prevent unwanted cropping, you can upload dedicated mobile images for your pages (except the Game Screen).

👉 Make sure that all important content is centered within your visuals so that nothing is cut off on smaller screen sizes.

Preview your campaign

To ensure your campaign looks its best, you can preview it using one of the following tools:

1. Socialshaker Preview:

Click the preview icon at the top of the editor. The mobile preview uses a generic model and may not exactly match real device rendering.

2. “Inspect Element” Method:

To simulate the game on different mobile devices:

  • Copy your game's preview or microsite URL from the “Installation” section

  • Open it in a new browser tab

  • Right-click anywhere on the page and select “Inspect”

  • Enable the “Toggle Device Toolbar”

  • Choose your device — the game view will adapt in real-time

✅ This method also lets you preview tablets like the iPad and view the device’s screen dimensions.

❌ Only a limited list of devices is available.

3. Browser Testing Tools (e.g. Browserstack):

Paid tools like Browserstack let you test your game URL on a wide variety of real devices. They are also useful for customer support, in case a participant reports a display issue.
